Shudder is celebrating ‘Halfway to Halloween’ with the creepy little Irish pot of gold, Fréwaka, directed by Aislinn Clarke (The Devil’s Doorway).

Focusing on the devastating effects of generational trauma, Fréwaka is the haunting tale of primary care worker Shoo (Clare Monnelly) sent to care for Peig (Brid Ni Neachtain), an elderly woman recovering from a stroke. But soon after Shoo arrives, she discovers a sinister side of this rural Irish town, and is forced to face her past.

Fréwaka does a fantastic job weaving together a story of tragic history and superstition, blurring the line between reality and delusion. An eerie and powerful musical score adds to the uncomfortable atmosphere, leading us to the film’s ultimate conclusion.

Fans of folk horror should definitely check out Fréwaka, available now on Shudder NZ.
