Review:

With a budget of 45 million dollars, I have to say I expected a bit more out of this movie. The storyline of a soldier being made into a super-soldier out for revenge is pretty decent, and I was on board for some good action sequences and visual effects.

Unfortunately, somewhere along the line, things get a bit muddled and it’s hard to imagine Vin Diesel caring about anything as neither his facial expressions, nor his voice convey any type of emotion whatsoever over the course of the movie.

The acting of his costars is almost enough to forgive Diesel’s carboard tough guy act, and the fantastic fight sequences and visual effects bring it closer still, but ultimately everything kind of falls flat if you don’t believe your main character cares about anything.

There are a few great shots in this movie including the tunnel fight sequence and the dancing psychopath, which help make it a fun watch. I feel like bumping the rating up from PG-13 to R, and really going for a bit more adult gore and violence, may have given this flick the extra push it needed.

Bloodshot feels like it holds back and, in my opinion, if you have ‘Blood’ in your title, I’m expecting a bit more of it than I received.

All in all the movie is ok and if you’re into sci-fi action comic book action, you’ll probably want to check it out. I suggest waiting for it to come down in price though as the current $25 price tag for the express to video service is a bit much.
